Welcome. I’m Sarah.

As a third-generation plantswoman, with degrees in Horticulture and Landscape Design, I established Thrive Landscape Design in 2003. My mission is to help you create a garden that reflects who you are—one that delights you every time you step outside. By respecting the inherent qualities of the landscape, addressing challenges, and allowing constraints to spark creativity, I work to shape spaces where nature and people thrive together. Collaboration is at the heart of my process, bringing together clients, architects, builders, and artisans to achieve the very best result.

My love of plants and landscapes began with my grandmother, Phyllis, a plantswoman whose farm life could have filled the pages of a book. Through her letters, she shared daily glimpses of beauty in nature, and passed down her wisdom: how to propagate plants, delight in the seeds of a milkweed pod, and count the monarch butterflies. She often reminded me—with a smile—that there is never enough ‘thyme’ – a simple truth about slowing down and finding joy in the garden.

Though Phyllis crossed over on the Summer Solstice of 2024 at the age of 102, her strength, gentleness, and compassion remain a guiding presence in my work. The fragrance of basil, the structure of rosemary, and the beauty of wildflowers were just a few of her garden’s gifts. Her legacy lives on in every design, every planting, and every garden created through Thrive.
